Majestic Yunam Peak Expedition
Scale a 6,100m non-technical summit in the raw, barren mountains of Lahaul with breathtaking views of the Chandra-Bhaga ranges.
Hotel Check-in & Briefing
Welcome to Manali! Upon arrival, check-in to your hotel and take some time to rest. We will have a thorough trek briefing session after lunch, scheduled around 3:00 PM.
In the evening, you are free to step out for local sightseeing. We recommend visiting popular spots like the Hidimba Devi Temple and Vashist Kund (it's advisable to avoid Rohtang Pass on this day).
Note: Only the hotel stay is included in the package cost. Food and local sightseeing expenses are excluded.
Altitude: Keylong - 3,080m | Jispa - 3,200m
Drive Distance: 100-120 km | 5 hrs
We start our adventure with a pick-up around 9:00 AM. The scenic 5-hour drive takes us through the majestic Rohtang Pass and past Tandi, the unique confluence of the Bhaga and Chandra rivers. We will also pass by Sisa village, home to the revered Temple of Raja Ghapan, before driving alongside the beautiful Bhaga River.
Tonight, you will experience the thrill of staying in tents. You'll still have access to mobile networks, and this is the last point where an ATM is available, so make sure to carry sufficient cash.
Altitude: 4,700m / 15,500ft.
Drive Distance: 90 km | 4-5 hrs.
Leaving at 9:00 AM, our journey continues towards Bharatpur. Along the breathtaking route, you'll witness the crystal-clear waters of Deepak Tal and Suraj Tal, and cross the spectacular Baralacha La at 4,890m (one of Himachal Pradesh's highest motorable passes).
We'll have a hot lunch upon reaching our campsite. We spend the night in tents. Please note that mobile networks are only available up till Patseo.
Rest and short hikes for altitude adaptation.
Today is dedicated to acclimatization. We will embark on a small hike to help your body adapt to the thinner air, combining it with plenty of rest.
Heavy physical exertion should be avoided today. It is critical to drink a good amount of water and keep your body well-hydrated to prevent altitude sickness.
Altitude: 5,250m / 17,200ft.
Trek Distance: 5 km | 4 hrs. (Altitude Gain: 550m)
The trek officially begins! We cover 5 km today on a trail characterized by moraines. The ascent will be a mix of gradual and steep sections. You'll walk alongside a small water stream—prepare for the flow to increase significantly after lunch.
There are multiple water points along the route. Our Base Camp is beautifully situated near a small alpine lake, where we will stay in tents on a twin-sharing basis.
Preparation and summit briefing.
This day involves essential summit briefing and training. Sitting or sleeping idly in the camp all day is not advisable. Instead, stay active with very short hikes to visit nearby picturesque spots.
We will have an early dinner followed by an early bedtime, as we prepare for the challenging summit push the next morning.
Altitude: 6,100m / 20,100ft.
Trek Distance: 6 km (both ways) | 9-10 hrs.
The big day! We start our steep ascent for the summit attempt very early at 2:00 AM. The challenging terrain consists of moraines, sharp rocks, and potentially snow patches, with full snow coverage near the top.
Ensure you carry enough water, as there is only one water source on this stretch, which you will encounter about half an hour after leaving the Base Camp. After soaking in the triumph at 6,100m, we make our way safely back to the Base Camp.
Trek Distance: 5 km | 3 hrs.
Drive Distance: 175 km | 8 hrs.
After a momentous expedition, we descend 5 km back to Bharatpur, which typically takes about 3 hours.
From Bharatpur, we embark on an 8-hour, 175 km drive back to civilization, expecting to reach Manali between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. We recommend scheduling your onward travel from Manali for any time after 8:00 PM.
