The Mystical Chandranahan Lake
Trek to the pristine source of the Pabbar River. Chandranahan Lake is a group of seven sacred glacial ponds nestled in the high mountains of Rohru. From the heritage village of Janglikh to the vast meadows of Dayara, this trek offers a perfect blend of culture, dense forests, and high-altitude spiritual serenity.
Distance: 150 km Drive | 7 hrs
Your journey begins early in the morning from Shimla. We drive through the beautiful apple orchards of Rohru and follow the Pabbar river deep into the mountains. Janglikh is the last roadhead and a stunning heritage village with traditional architecture. We'll spend the night in a cozy guesthouse or camp, soaking in the local culture before the trek starts.
Trek Distance: 8 km | 5-6 hrs
The trek begins with a steady climb out of Janglikh village. We pass through thick forests of pine and oak that eventually open up into the vast, rolling meadows of Dayara Thach. In the winter and early spring, these meadows are often a white wonderland, offering a perfect setting for our first high-altitude camp.
Trek Distance: 6 km | 4-5 hrs
Today we head deeper into the valley towards Litham Thach. The trail offers breathtaking views of the Gunas Pass and the towering peaks of the Dhauladhar range. We'll set up camp near the magnificent Chandranahan waterfall, which often stands frozen in winter, creating a dramatic and serene backdrop for our evening.
Trek Distance: 8 km | 6-7 hrs
This is the most sacred and challenging day of the trek. We climb towards the Seven Glacial Ponds, the source of the Pabbar River. The fifth pond is the largest and most spectacular, nestled in a giant glacial bowl. After exploring these pristine turquoise waters and taking in the spiritual energy of the mountains, we return to the comfort of our camp at Litham Thach.
Trek: 13 km | Drive: 150 km | 7 hrs
We retrace our steps from Litham back to Janglikh, giving you another chance to enjoy the meadows of Dayara. Upon reaching the village, take a moment to bid farewell to the mountains and the local guides. From Janglikh, we board our vehicles for the long but scenic drive back to Shimla, carrying with you the peace of the sacred lakes.
A buffer day is included in the itinerary to account for unpredictable Himalayan weather or any unexpected delays. This ensures the safety and success of the trek. If unused, this day can be spent exploring the local sights of Shimla or relaxing after the journey.
