Drive from NJP to Sepi

Altitude Sepi: 6,400 ft.

Drive Distance: 130 km | 7 hrs.

Your grand Himalayan adventure commences at New Jalpaiguri (NJP). From here, you'll embark on a breathtaking 7-hour drive winding through the scenic tea-garden-clad hills of Bengal towards the quaint village of Sepi. Enjoy the fresh mountain air as you settle into your first high-altitude homestay, preparing for the days of trekking ahead.

The trek officially begins! Starting from Sepi, we trail through rich green forests toward Ramam. The path is accompanied by an orchestra of chirping mountain birds. After crossing beautiful streams, we make our way to Samanden, a hidden gem often referred to as the "Fairy Tale Village" nestled amidst thick pine forests.

Today is a challenging yet deeply rewarding day as you ascend significantly in altitude. Passing through the serene river-side settlement of Gorkhey, you'll tackle a steep ascent leading towards the barren ridges of Phalut. From Phalut, you get some of the most unobstructed and dramatic views of the Sleeping Buddha structure formed by Mt. Kangchenjunga.

Walking the high-altitude ridge connecting Phalut to Sandakphu is unarguably one of the most stunning lateral walks in the Himalayas. The undulated trail towards Thokum zig-zags along the Indo-Nepal border, with Mt. Everest and Kangchenjunga accompanying you alongside vast alpine meadows.

The hike today is relatively shorter but extremely picturesque. You'll make your way through Singalila National Park, surrounded by fiery rhododendrons (if trekking in spring). After a steady hike, we set up camp at Aal, a stunning windswept campsite famous for providing spectacular, vivid sunsets.

Get ready to conquer West Bengal's highest point! After a brief morning hike from Aal, you'll stand at Sandakphu (11,900 ft), soaking in majestic panoramas of four out of the five highest peaks in the world. After celebrating your triumph, we begin our descent through dense bamboo and pine forests all the way down to the warm hospitality of Timburey.

On our final day, we take a short, beautiful 3 km walk down to Srikhola, known for its famous hanging bridge and pristine river. From here, we hit the road again for the 7-hour drive back to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) via Sepi, bringing an unforgettable high-altitude adventure to a beautiful close.
