Arrival at Sankri

Altitude: 1,950m / 6,400 ft.

Drive Distance: 220 km | 10 hours approximately

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Sankri, the gateway to the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park. The route takes you through the beautiful hills of Mussoorie and along the sparking Yamuna and Tons rivers. You'll drive through lush green forests and charming Himalayan villages before reaching the picturesque base camp at Sankri.

The first day of trekking takes you from Sankri towards the beautiful Juda-ka-Talab. The trail winds through dense pine forests and over carpets of brown leaves. In winter, this path turns into a snowy wonderland. The lake itself is a mystical sight, often frozen solid during the peak winter months, surrounded by tall pine trees and a serene atmosphere.

A relatively short but steep ascent lead you to the Kedarkantha Base Camp. As you emerge from the tree line, vast open meadows greed you with panoramic views of several snow-capped peaks including Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Kala Nag. The campsite is one of the most beautiful in the Himalayas, perfect for stargazing and preparing for the summit push.

The summit day starts in the early morning darkness. The climb to the Kedarkantha Peak is challenging but rewarding. From the top, you'll witness a spectacular 360-degree view of the Himalayan ranges. After spending some time at the summit, descend through the snowy slopes to Hargaon Camp, a beautiful clearing in the forest.

The descent from Hargaon back to Sankri is a steady downhill walk through beautiful oak and pine forests. Enjoy the last views of the valley and the peaceful surroundings. Upon reaching Sankri, you can relax and celebrate the successful completion of your trek with the team and fellow trekkers.

After breakfast, it's time to bid farewell to the mountains. The drive back to Dehradun from Sankri follows the same scenic route. You'll carry with you the magic of the summit, the warmth of the mountain villages, and memories that will last a lifetime as you reach Dehradun by late evening.
