The Sacred Kedarkantha Trek
Embark on a deeply spiritual and physically rewarding journey to one of the most revered Jyotirlingas in the mighty Garhwal Himalayas. Trek through the scenic Mandakini valley and witness the divine aura of the ancient Kedarkantha Temple set against towering snow-capped peaks.
Altitude: 1,950m / 6,400 ft.
Drive Distance: 220 km | 10 hours approximately
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Sankri, the gateway to the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park. The route takes you through the beautiful hills of Mussoorie and along the sparking Yamuna and Tons rivers. You'll drive through lush green forests and charming Himalayan villages before reaching the picturesque base camp at Sankri.
Altitude: 2,800 m / 9,100 ft
Trek Distance: 4-5 km | 5 hours approximately
The first day of trekking takes you from Sankri towards the beautiful Juda-ka-Talab. The trail winds through dense pine forests and over carpets of brown leaves. In winter, this path turns into a snowy wonderland. The lake itself is a mystical sight, often frozen solid during the peak winter months, surrounded by tall pine trees and a serene atmosphere.
Altitude: 3,100 m / 10,100 ft.
Trek Distance: 4 km | 2.5 hours approximately
A relatively short but steep ascent lead you to the Kedarkantha Base Camp. As you emerge from the tree line, vast open meadows greed you with panoramic views of several snow-capped peaks including Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Kala Nag. The campsite is one of the most beautiful in the Himalayas, perfect for stargazing and preparing for the summit push.
Peak: 3,800 m / 12,500 ft. | Hargaon: 2,700 m / 8,900 ft.
Trek Distance: 6-7 km | 7 hrs approximately
The summit day starts in the early morning darkness. The climb to the Kedarkantha Peak is challenging but rewarding. From the top, you'll witness a spectacular 360-degree view of the Himalayan ranges. After spending some time at the summit, descend through the snowy slopes to Hargaon Camp, a beautiful clearing in the forest.

Trek Distance: 4 km | 3-4 hours approximately
The descent from Hargaon back to Sankri is a steady downhill walk through beautiful oak and pine forests. Enjoy the last views of the valley and the peaceful surroundings. Upon reaching Sankri, you can relax and celebrate the successful completion of your trek with the team and fellow trekkers.
Drive Distance: 220 km | 10 hours approx
After breakfast, it's time to bid farewell to the mountains. The drive back to Dehradun from Sankri follows the same scenic route. You'll carry with you the magic of the summit, the warmth of the mountain villages, and memories that will last a lifetime as you reach Dehradun by late evening.

By Bus
- Frequent buses from Delhi (ISBT Kashmiri Gate) to Dehradun.
- Delhi to Dehradun: 250 km | 6-7 hr via Meerut Expressway.
- Both Volvo (AC) and Ordinary (UTC) buses are available throughout the night.
By Train
- Nearest Junction: Dehradun Railway Station (DDN).
- Well connected by Nanda Devi Express, Jan Shatabdi, and Mussoorie Express.
- Highly recommended for a comfortable overnight journey from Delhi.
By Air
- Nearest Airport: Jolly Grant Airport (DED).
- Airport is ~25 km (1 hr) from the main Dehradun city center.
- Direct flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
The trek ends at Sankri. From here, we provide transportation back to Dehradun Railway Station. Expect to reach Dehradun between 06:00 PM and 08:00 PM. Plan your onward journey after midnight or for the next morning.






- Age Requirement: Minimum 14 years.
- Experience: First-timers are welcome, though prior trekking experience is preferred. Good fitness is a must.
- Fitness Criteria:
- Ability to cover 5 km in 30 mins or 10 km in 70 mins without stress.
- For cycling enthusiasts: Ability to cycle 18 km in 50 minutes.
- Backpack Load: 10-12 kg (Self-carry) or 3-5 kg (Off-load option).
- Ideal BMI Range: 18.5 - 27.
