Dharamkot to Triund Top

Trek: 9 km | 4-5 hr.

Altitude: 2,875 m / 9,430 ft.

The trek begins from McLeod Ganj/Dharamkot, famous for its vibrant Tibetan culture and as the home of the Dalai Lama. We start early with a 9 km steep climb to reach Triund. This beautiful meadow offers a perfect vantage point for watching the sunset over the mountains. We set up camp and spend the night under the Dhauladhar stars.

Triund Top to Laka Got

Trek: 6 km | 4-5 hr.

Altitude: 3,500 m / 11,480 ft.

The second day involves a 6 km climb to Laka Got. The trail passes through lush meadows and dense forests with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Keep an eye out for local wildlife like Himalayan Langurs and wild goats. Laka Got is a picturesque camping site located at the base of the mountain ranges, offering a serene atmosphere for our second overnight stay.

Laka Got to Indrahar Pass & Return

Trek: Challenging Ascent | 10-12 hrs.

Altitude: 4,342 m / 14,245 ft.

Today is the most challenging day. We start very early for Indrahar Pass via the historic Lahesh Cave. The steep and demanding trail takes around 6-7 hours to reach the pass. From the top, you gain unparalleled views of both the Kangra and Chamba valleys. After soaking in the views, we begin the careful descent back to Laka Got to spend our final night in the camp.

Laka Got to Dharamkot

Trek: 12 km Descent | 5-6 hr.

Conclusion of the trek

The final day involves a moderate 12 km descent back to McLeod Ganj / Dharamkot. We pass through charming landscapes and local settlements, enjoying the last views of the Dhauladhar range. The trek concludes by the afternoon, leaving you with a moderate yet rewarding sense of accomplishment.

By Train

  • Pathankot is the nearest major broad-gauge station (90 km).
  • Taxi or bus services are frequently available from Pathankot to McLeod Ganj.

By Bus

  • Overnight Volvo and HRTC buses run daily from Delhi and Chandigarh.
  • They drop you at Dharamshala or McLeod Ganj directly.
Pro Tip for Travelers

Spend a day in McLeod Ganj before the trek to explore the Tibetan monasteries and local culture. This also helps with initial acclimatization.

Eligibility for Buran Ghati Trek
  • Age Requirement: Minimum 14 years.
  • Experience: First-timers are welcome, though prior trekking experience is preferred. Good fitness is a must.
  • Fitness Criteria:
    • Ability to cover 5 km in 30 mins or 10 km in 70 mins without stress.
    • For cycling enthusiasts: Ability to cycle 18 km in 50 minutes.
    • Backpack Load: 10-12 kg (Self-carry) or 3-5 kg (Off-load option).
    • Ideal BMI Range: 18.5 - 27.
