Day-by-Day Itinerary
D1
Shimla to Tangnu

Altitude: 2,438 m / 8,000 ft.

Drive Distance: 155 km | 9-10 hr.

Your adventure begins with a long, scenic drive from the queen of hills, Shimla, deep into the heart of the mountains. The road winds through beautiful valleys and quaint villages before reaching Tangnu. Situated at 8,000 ft, Tangnu is a traditional village that offers a peaceful escape and serves as our base for the upcoming trek.

The trek officially commences as we leave Tangnu and head towards the high-altitude meadows of Jamunta Thatch. The trail is a steady ascent through dense forests that eventually open up to vast, lush clearings. The crisp mountain air and the silence of the wilderness make this a perfect first day on the trail.

Today we push further into the alpine zone as we move from Jamunta Thatch to Darwal. The landscape begins to change, with trees becoming sparser and rocky outcrops more frequent. Darwal offers a magnificent campsite with panoramic views, making you feel truly connected to the raw power of the Himalayas.

A short but rewarding trek takes us to the Waterfall campsite. Perched at 13,200 ft, this site is named after the beautiful mountain cascades nearby. The sound of rushing water and the surrounding jagged peaks create a dramatic and serene atmosphere for our overnight stay as we acclimatize to higher altitudes.

We ascend towards the Himsu Base, crossing the significant 15,000 ft mark. The terrain becomes more challenging, characterized by moraines and rocky trails. This campsite serves as our final launchpad for the summit; the excitement builds as the peak looms large and magnificent above us.

The summit day! An early start (often before dawn) takes us towards the pinnacle of Himsu Peak. The climb is arduous and requires determination, but reaching 17,088 ft is an unparalleled success. After soaking in the 360-degree theater of snow-clad peaks, we begin our long descent back towards the relative comfort of Darwal.

We retrace our steps through the familiar landscapes of the high-altitude meadows. Descending from Darwal to Jamunta Thatch allows you to appreciate the beauty of the trail from a different perspective. It’s a day to relax, reflect on the summit success, and enjoy the cooling breeze of the lower altitudes.

On our final day, we complete the descent back to Tangnu village. After bidding farewell to the local guides and the serene mountains, we board our vehicle for the long drive back to Shimla. As the road takes you away from the heights, you'll carry with you the proud and lasting memory of conquering Himsu Peak.
