Manali To Chhika Via Jobra

Altitude: Manali (2,100 m) to Chhika (3,100 m) via Jobra (2,800 m)

Drive: 16 km | 1 hr   Trek: 3 km | 2 hrs

Your adventure begins with a beautiful drive from Manali to Jobra, passing through 40 hairpin bends with views of the valley. From Jobra, we start a gentle trek through lush forests of pine, oak, and maple. The trail follows the Rani Nallah stream, eventually leading us to our first campsite at Chhika—a massive green clearing perfect for your first night under the mountain stars. Please reach Manali a day early to avoid delays.

Today's trek is a steady uphill climb through varying landscapes. We cross a few glacial streams and wander through boulder-strewn paths filled with wildflowers. Balu Ka Ghera, meaning 'Sand of the Bear', is a breathtaking campsite situated on a sandy riverbed surrounded by jagged peaks. It’s a place of immense peace and raw Himalayan beauty, perfect for soaking in the mountain air.

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the journey. We push towards the summit of Hampta Pass across snow and rock. Reaching the 14,100 ft mark is an incredible achievement. From the top, you witness a stunning contrast: the emerald valleys behind you and the stark, lunar-like desert mountains of Spiti ahead. We then descend to the scenic meadows of Shea Goru for our overnight stay.

We continue our descent through the rugged Lahaul valley to reach Chatru. From here, a vehicle takes us on a scenic drive to the legendary Chandratal (Moon Lake). Spending time by the turquoise water, reflecting the snow-capped peaks, is a soul-stirring experience. We return to Chatru for our final camp night. Note: Visit to Chandratal is subject to road and weather conditions.

On our final day, we bid farewell to the high-altitude desert and drive back to Manali via the Rohtang Pass or the Atal Tunnel. As we cross back into the green valleys, you'll carry with you the magic of the Spiti crossover and the unforgettable memories of the celestial Chandratal and the rugged Hampta trail.
