The Deoriatal–Chandrashila trek Himalayan Trek
The Deoriatal–Tungnath–Chandrashila trek is a beginner-friendly Himalayan trail in Uttarakhand that combines scenic beauty with spiritual significance. Starting from Sari Village, the trek begins with a short hike to Deoria Tal, a picturesque lake famous for its reflection of snow-capped peaks. The trail then ascends through forests to Chopta, followed by a steep climb to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The final summit at Chandrashila Peak offers stunning 360-degree views of Himalayan giants like Nanda

Sari Village, the base camp for the Deoria Tal trek, is situated approximately 190–220 km from Rishikesh and can be reached in 6–8 hours by road. The route passes through picturesque locations like Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath. Travelers can take buses or taxis from Rishikesh to Ukhimath, followed by a short 10–12 km taxi ride to Sari Village, making it a convenient and scenic journey for trekkers.

The Deoria Tal trek from Sari Village is a beginner-friendly 2.5–3 km hike that takes around 1–2 hours to reach an altitude of approximately 8,000 ft. Surrounded by lush oak and rhododendron forests, this scenic trail offers mesmerizing views of the Chaukhamba and Kedar mountain ranges, perfectly mirrored in the pristine Deoria Tal lake—making it one of the most picturesque short treks in Uttarakhand.

Baniyakund Altitude: 2,600 m/ 8,500 ft.

Drive Distance: 15 km | 45 min.
Enjoy a scenic trek through rhododendron forests and alpine meadows, with chances to spot rare Himalayan birds in Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. The route passes through Rohini Bugyal and Shyalmi meadows before reaching Tala Village, followed by a short drive to Baniyakund for an overnight stay in camps or lodges.

The Baniyakund to Tungnath and Chandrashila trek is a 9–11 km round trip that takes 6–8 hours, offering stunning Himalayan views. Starting from Chopta, also known as the Mini Switzerland of India, this moderate one-day hike leads to Tungnath Temple and further to Chandrashila Peak, making it a must-do trek in Uttarakhand.

- Frequent buses from Delhi (ISBT Kashmiri Gate) to Dehradun/Rishikesh.
- Delhi to Dehradun: 250 km | 6-7 hr via Meerut Expressway.
- Both Volvo (AC) and Ordinary (UTC) buses are available throughout the night.
By Train
- Nearest Junction: Dehradun Railway Station (DDN).
- Well connected by Nanda Devi Express, Jan Shatabdi, and Mussoorie Express.
- Highly recommended for a comfortable overnight journey from Delhi.
By Air
- Nearest Airport: Jolly Grant Airport (DED).
- Airport is ~25 km (1 hr) from the main Dehradun city center.
- Direct flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
The trek ends at Baniyakund/Chopta. From here, we provide transportation back to Rishikesh/Dehradun. Expect to reach by evening. Plan your onward journey accordingly.




- Age Requirement: Minimum 14 years.
- Experience: First-timers are welcome, though prior trekking experience is preferred. Good fitness is a must.
- Fitness Criteria:
- Ability to cover 5 km in 30 mins or 10 km in 70 mins without stress.
- For cycling enthusiasts: Ability to cycle 18 km in 50 minutes.
- Backpack Load: 10-12 kg (Self-carry) or 3-5 kg (Off-load option).
- Ideal BMI Range: 18.5 - 27.
